PAWTUCKET – Ambitious plans for a 150-acre development district surrounding a new train station near the Pawtucket/Central Falls line were officially unveiled last Thursday by Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien and Central Falls Mayor James Diossa during an event at the nearby Isle Brewers Guild on Main Street.

The Conant Thread District will be a transit-oriented development, centered around a transit hub linking rail access with Rhode Island Public Transit Authority bus service, pedestrian cycling routes, and other opportunities. Approximately $50 million in federal, state and municipal funding has already been committed to build the new train station and transit hub, which are expected to be substantially completed by 2021.
